The Opportunity

As a Fire Alarm Programmer, you will work on the programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, service, and preventive maintenance of small- to medium-sized fire alarm systems and projects.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems in the field, working with sophisticated fire alarm technology, and providing a high level of service to customers.

What You’ll Do:

  • Program and commission small- to medium-sized fire alarm systems and panels
  • Troubleshoot fire alarm systems, field devices, circuits, and system conditions
  • Perform field diagnostics and service as needed
  • Read and interpret fire alarm blueprints, schematics, and sequences of operation
  • Install components and prewire fire alarm panels
  • Verify field wiring, component connections, and voltage outputs
  • Bootstrap and commission EST fire alarm panels
  • Generate system status and service reports
  • Document programming changes, materials, and work performed
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with clients
  • Follow applicable NYC Building Code and NFPA requirements

What You Bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Trade School education is a plus
  • 2+ years of fire alarm experience with S-98 certification, OR
  • 4+ years of fire alarm experience with the ability to obtain S-98 within 3 months
  • Strong understanding of fire alarm system operation and functionality
  • Ability to read fire alarm drawings, schematics, and sequences of operation
  • Familiarity with EST products is highly desirable
  • Understanding of basic electronics, including Ohm’s Law, AC/DC, and circuits
  • Ability to use test equipment and hand tools
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Professional written and verbal communication
  • Strong organization and time-management skills

Certifications & Professional Development

  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety
  • DOB 4-Hour Scaffolding Certification
  • EST Technical training
  • EST 3 Certification
