Senior Design Engineer

Position Summary:

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for leading the design, coordination, and technical execution of complex HVAC control systems and/or protective systems projects, including access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, and intrusion systems. This role serves as a technical leader within the engineering department, providing advanced design expertise, mentoring junior engineering staff, establishing engineering standards, and supporting strategic project execution. Be able to exercise a high degree of independent judgment and collaborates closely with operations, project management, programmers, field teams, and customers to ensure successful project delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the engineering design and technical execution of complex HVAC controls and/or protective systems projects.

• Develop and review advanced engineered drawings, system schematics, network architecture, panel layouts, control diagrams, and related engineering documentation.

• Interpret project specifications, customer requirements, and contract documents to develop comprehensive system designs and engineering solutions.

• Perform advanced engineering calculations, device selections, and system integration planning for controls and protective systems applications.

• Develop, review, and optimize sequences of operation and system functionality for complex automation and control systems.

• Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for Design Engineers, Programmers, Project Managers, and field personnel.

• Review and approve engineering deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures.

• Support project planning, scheduling, resource coordination, and engineering workload management.

• Assist with commissioning support, system troubleshooting, startup activities, and resolution of complex technical issues.

• Collaborate directly with customers, consultants, vendors, and contractors regarding system design, technical requirements, and project coordination.

• Mentor and train junior engineering staff and support employee development initiatives within the department.

• Lead continuous improvement efforts related to engineering standards, templates, workflows, and operational efficiency.

• Support estimating, design-build opportunities, and strategic engineering initiatives as needed.

Education, Certifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or related field required.

• 7+ years of related experience preferred.

• Experience coaching, mentoring and training other team members preferred.

Software & Systems:

• At least 5 years of experience using AutoCAD, Visio, or similar drafting/design software preferred. Specific Technical Knowledge

• Advanced understanding of HVAC controls, electrical systems, or protective systems required.
